Statement - C . Titus Brown
The future of biology and biomedicine lies at the intersection of data gathering, hypothesis generation, and hypothesis testing. It is increasingly easy to gather large amounts of relevant data, but interpretation of that data and connection of that data to downstream hypothesis-driven experimentation is still difficult and rare. Effectively integrating large scale data analysis with “wet” biol...
متن کاملAlgebraic Properties of Homotopies
The scheme ExFunc3CondD deals with a non empty set A, three unary functors F , G, and H yielding sets, and three unary predicates P, Q, R, and states that: There exists a function f such that dom f = A and for every element c of A holds if P[c], then f(c) = F(c) and if Q[c], then f(c) = G(c) and if R[c], then f(c) = H(c) provided the parameters meet the following conditions: • For every element...
متن کاملCurves on Normal Surfaces
We study locally Cohen-Macaulay space curves lying on normal surfaces. We prove some theorems on the behaviour of the cohomology functions and initial ideals of such space curves, which give a basic distinction between those curves and curves lying on non-normal surfaces. A natural step in the study and classification of space curves is to classify the Hilbert functions of space curves, or, mor...
متن کاملNuclei of Normal Rational Curves
A k–nucleus of a normal rational curve in PG(n, F ) is the intersection over all k–dimensional osculating subspaces of the curve (k ∈ {−1, 0, . . . , n− 1}). It is well known that for characteristic zero all nuclei are empty. In case of characteristic p > 0 and #F ≥ n the number of non–zero digits in the representation of n+ 1 in base p equals the number of distinct nuclei. An explicit formula ...
متن کاملCompleteness of Normal Rational Curves
The completeness of normal rational curves, considered as (q + 1)-arcs in PG(n, q), is investigated. Previous results of Storme and Thas are improved by using a result by Kovacs. This solves the problem completely for large prime numbers q and odd nonsquare prime powers q = p2h+l with p prime, p > po(h), h>\,1where po(h) is an odd prime number which depends on h.
